Life as a modern "hippie"

It’s safe to say the word “hippie” had a whole new meaning over 60 years ago compared to today. While some can confidently say the term counts as an anti-Vietnam catastrophe, others can say anti-society.

With marijuana recreational use legal in 18 states — Washington, Montana, Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, and Connecticut — already, the United States is heading toward hippie heaven.

I’ve highlighted a list of valid statements that many may or may not relate to. Most of these statements will blend as they should.

Good and bad energy

Everyone, every place, gives off good and bad “mojo.” When I recognize the bad, I’m out. Animals are gifted with providing both emotional support and good “mojo,” whether they know it or not. This is why when our pets do something crazy, we know it’s not an intentional offense but an animalistic tendency. This brings me to my next point.

All animals are good animals

There’s no such thing as a bad animal. All animals are worth saving and befriending in some way or another. Endangered species are becoming more endangered as profit turns over ethics, but we see through this. Let the animals live their lives as they were meant to. Like us, animals are our best friends and can be better emotional support than most humans.

Alternative music doesn’t quite cut it

Alternative music was simply a phase back in the day. Indie and melancholy stories of relationships gone haywire are where we shine the most. The bands beyond the radio and even our closest friends inspire the best in us. The vibes are there and the negativity isn’t.

Connecting on a spiritual level

We are true empaths and nothing goes over our heads. Walking into a room of people is never a walk in the park and we sense tension faster than your average troublemaker. We connect with plants, animals, and the universe on an unexplainable level.
